Srinagar, Dec 08 (KNO): “I have fixed a cricket match on Sunday and have made all the arrangements, you just have to come and play with me.” These were the last words of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani, his friend, who was drenched in tears, told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). A heart-rending scene was witnessed at Eidgah Srinagar as the lifeless body of the valiant cop, who was killed by terrorists, finally returned home. Amidst a shroud of sorrow and cries, his body was first brought to District Police Lines (DPL) Srinagar before being handed over to his grieving family for the final rites. The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by senior officers of police and civil administration who paid a salute to the martyr amid heavy hearts. The family members were also present. They were weeping and wailing. Masroor fell victim to an attack while he was enjoying a game of cricket on a sunny day in Srinagar, on October 29, at Eidgah playground. Despite battling with immense fortitude, he succumbed to his grievous injuries in AIIMS Delhi on Thursday. As the body of the martyred police inspector reached back home, an atmosphere of mourning engulfed the area. Friends, colleagues and community members poured in, their eyes drenched with tears, to bid a last goodbye to the beloved. Everyone around shared their pain as they said goodbye to the beloved patriot. The uncontainable tears reflected the shared pain of those present. Masroor’s recent posting was as the Station House Officer (SHO) at Chanapora, where he was posted for a few days. Lastly, he was posted at the Police Control Room (PCR), Batamaloo. “Masroor was a gentle and down-to-earth man. Despite being a police officer, he had zero craze. We were like brothers and he used to share everything with me,” his friend Iqbal (name changed) said while speaking to KNO. "I fail to understand why anybody would kill such a noble soul. The thought of his wife becoming a widow and his unborn child an orphan sends shivers down our spines. We are unable to come to terms with this tragic loss. We deeply miss him. May Allah grant him Jannat-ul-Firdous," said Iqbal, who was inconsolable and continued sobbing. Meanwhile, hundreds of people including senior police officers and officers from the administration attended the funeral of the slain inspector at Eidgah amid tears and sobs. A pall of gloom had descended in the entire area with women wailing and mourning the death of Inspector Wani—(KNO)
